Better late than never, Dj Ocaso got his start at the age of 23, years later than most others in the business have started out and finally bought his first set of CD decks and a mixer. Ocaso took on the task of Dj at a few college parties for the last 2 years of his college career. Looking back, he grew up in a household where music was always playing. He has always been a collector and an enthusiast of Electronic Dance Music and other styles / genres of music, as well as being a “down to earth” people person, so it felt to him like the right thing to do. And pursue he did…
After the chaos of college had passed, Ocaso had more free time to experience the clubs in NYC because he wasn't hearing what he wanted on Long Island. He began to feel a greater connection with the underground sounds and vibes he was experiencing in NYC and ran with it. A year later in 2009, Ocaso had built up a good collection with an ear to the sounds of the underground then began posting mixes on the internet and handing mix CDs out to who ever would accept one. Within a few months he landed himself and opening spot at a Brooklyn venue for a few out of town djs, which he handled very well for a newcomer.
In the summer of 2010, Ocaso contacted Pure.Fm internet radio, which he listened to back in college thanks to a classmate, to secure his own 2 hour global monthly mix show along side many other big and small name international Djs. He has pretty much made a name and a sound for himself with his “Night Rhythm Sessions” mix show, which takes a ride through a blend of Deep House to a touch of Progressive, weaving in and out amid the subgenres. Through the use of his mix shows, he networked and developed some friendships with fellow Djs who were able to see potential in the music as well as in Ocaso as a Dj. Over the course of 2011, he was fortunate enough to land more opening spots out on Long Island with the help of other Djs and Ocaso’s own knowledge of working up and setting a vibe.
Halfway through 2012 in June, Ocaso was able to finally break into the NYC club scene with a much celebrated debut at one of New York's last venues devoted to the true underground, the Sullivan Room. The response was amazing which led to a return to grace the decks two months later in August. After a slow year or so, Ocaso re-launched a weekly live stream video mix show from his studio in March 2014 called “Underrated” where he dives into his collection and plays a bit of everything, new and old. Recently, Ocaso’s latest project involves all of the promotional tracks that producers and or labels send him, as well as new tracks he buys by creating a new mix show just for them called “Fresh Trials” which will air weekly on a fellow Dj’s internet radio channel this summer.
Ocaso continues to push himself further by always being on the lookout for ways to contribute what he can. He does it for the love of the music and holds a great hope for what seems to be a promising future. Even with a slight taste of luck and success, Ocaso still has a long road ahead of him and has said, “Who knows where I'll end up? Tomorrow is another day where anything can happen. For me, it's exciting to feel the energy and express it through music.”
